Mary Andrews Nehring

I retired in 2000 after being a legal secretary for over 20 years. My husband, Bill, retired in 1999, after 40 years in education - teacher and principal. We sold our acreage last year and moved to North Liberty. We purchased a 3 story, 4 bedroom, 4 bath home and our youngest son and his 2 children, ages 6 and 8, moved in with us. We are back in the business of getting kids off to school and stepping over toys again. It is helping to keep us young and it is working out very well. We have one other grandson, age 3, who has type 1 diabetes, and we help out with him a lot too. We waited so long for grandchildren and now our lives are very full with them. We are just hoping we live long enough to see them chart their life course. I now spend a lot of time quilting and reading and Bill enjoys hunting and fishing. In 2012 we sold our home in North Liberty because our son got married again and he and his two children now have a home in Iowa City. Our house was way too big for the two of us so we found a condo in Tiffin that we loved and moved there. It is still very close to our church and we are only 3 miles from Coralridge Mall, which is one of the larger malls in Iowa. We still spend our spare time with the same hobbies plus doing things for church and children and grandchildren.
Chapter 4 - Not very active any more. Have lots of back problems and walk with a cane or a walker. Our youngest son, Jeff, passed away from colon cancer in 2020 and his children are in their 20's and doing a good job of taking care of themselves. Bill is slowing down also so life is ok for a couple of old foggies in their 80's.
