My 70th Birthday Bash July 3rd

My husband, Daryl, secretly planned a family party in a designated party room at Busch Stadium. The dinner was great, unlimited drinks, and a great game!!! We won and lots of fireworks!! The VP Fair was also on, so more fireworks and fun!! Pujols' Lamborghini was a hit with our grandchildren, as we could see where all the players park. I see him occasionally around the area since he lives not too far from us.

I remember in second and third grade having a maidrite as a Saturday treat. They were 25cents and were served and eaten at the origional maidrite shop.

No fillers, no sauces, no ketchup! Just plain, top of the line ground beef cooked the way I like it - served wet with mustard, pickles and onion. Hold it between the palms of your hands to warm the bun through before you open it. Eat the crumblies that fall out with a spoon and pair with a chocolate malt.

My husband comes from Kansas City. He told me he could make one at home. I let him try it. He put MASHED POTATOES in it and was proud of the way it stuck together instead of falling out all over the sandwich paper. Relax all, I set him straight.

Hi gang

I actually celebrated my 70th birthday three times. At Thanksgiving with all three children and spouses and all three grandchildren and Wally present I has cards and a most delicious CHOCOLATE (of course) cake. The best part was having everyone there.

Then in the middle of January in Naples, FL I had a party at the Turtle Club on the beach with Wally, Wally's sis, Melba, Clare Williams(56MHS)Frevert and hubby, Jim and another couple from Lake of the Ozarks present. Two big dessert pieces were passed for me and for the girlfriend from Lake of the Ozarks who also has a January birthday.

Third, on the actual day Wally took me, at my request, to Outback Steak House where we devoured Filet Migeon with the side of lobster tail that you can order with it. They also brought me a delicious CHOCOLATE sunday with two candles and oreo cookie crumbs.

All I have to say is ,"Milk it for all it's worth!" You're only 70 once. Wally says,"He's never slept with a 70 year old woman before."

I spent my 70th at home recovering from back surgery (disc) on Feb 2. I won't touch another snow shovel or snow blower ever again in my lifetime. Recovering fine - just takes time. Kids and grandchildren (4 and 7) came over for dinner.

Peggy Brainerd Buchwald's children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren surprised her with a party at the Riverview Log Cabin on October 17. Find JoAnn Ritland, Linda Lamer, Rene Gummert, Martha Ward, and Marcia Davenport, also Terry Barnard who was a year ahead of us. A good time was had by all! Avonelle Smith and Bev Wilcox are missing from the pictures.

Herbed Dressing for Sub Sandwiches

Ingredients	2 cups quantity	1/4 cup quantity
Olive Oil	1 1/2 cups	3 Tablespoons
Vinegar	1/2 cup	1 Tablespoon
Onion Powder	3 Tablespoons	1 teaspoon
Basil Leaves	4 teaspoons	1/2 teaspoon
Oregano	2 teaspoons	1/4 teaspoon
Salt	2 teaspoons	1/4 teaspoon
Garlic Powder	1 teaspoon	1/8 teaspoon
Ground Red Pepper	1/2 teaspoon	1/16 teaspoon

Directions:

Combine oil, vinegar, onion powder, oregano, basil, salt, garlic powder and red pepper; blend well.
Arrange a variety of cold cuts, cheeses, lettuce and tomato on bottom half of individual sub buns. Sprinkle with herbed dressing. Cover with remaining roll half.

I found this recipe in a Restaurant News magazine years ago, tried it and liked it. I use a mild flavor olive oil, usually rice vinegar (check the stoutness of it in case you need to reduce the amount), sea salt, and a Mediterranean grown oregano leaf.
